A visit to sea with the Bourbon Topaz: Informing the future ship's bridge

The gates at quay 23 in Tananger opened slowly and I walked in to the restricted area at the port with butterflies in my stomach. I was going out with a supply vessel to the North Sea for the first time. The reason why I was going out with Bourbon Topaz this morning in July was to learn about the bridge environment and its users. I work as a designer and researcher at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design in a project called the Ulstein Bridge Concept project. In this project, carried out in collaboration with Ulstein, Kwant Controls and Aalesund University College, we look at what the future bridge may look like. To be able to say anything about that, we need to talk to the users and learn about what they do on the bridge.

Pedagogical seminar

The DDDE project organizes a pedagogical seminar among the department’s members, in order to enable an open discussion about how to develop their own profession as teachers and/or tutors for their design students. Something that DDDE will support both their work directly and their course plan work during the coming spring semester. DDDE project hopes to develop this to a mini-series of a few seminars that blend internal work with experiences from other design schools and external resources for (e.g.) pedagogical institutions at UiO, HiOA and elsewhere.

Ulstein Bridge Vision: Can a video be research?

1 1/2 week ago Ulstein launched a video presenting the Ulstein Bridge Vision, an outcome of the Ulstein Bridge Concept (UBC) project. The vision presented is the result of more than one year of development work and shows new interaction design, product design and technical solutions.

UBV turns into ULSTEIN BRIDGE VISION™

Ulstein Bridge Visions has been refined through the Ulstein Bridge Concept (UBC) project. This work has resulted in ULSTEIN BRIDGE VISION™ which was launched by ULSTEIN at the ONS exhibition in Stavanger yesterday.
